The Mood Disorders Support Group, Inc. (MDSG-NY) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) self-help, peer run mental health organization.
Since 1981, MDSG-NY has been enhancing and saving lives. Our trained facilitators are peers who have "been there" themselves. They have experience and training in supporting individuals with similar mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder, as well as their families and loved ones. As attendees once themselves, they are in a unique position to help others heal.

OUR PEER STORIES
Real Accounts on MDSG-NY's Impact

The Mood Disorders Support Group, Inc.’s greatest gift to me is the opportunity to be myself around people who get it. When I share the highs and lows of my bipolar disorder, seeing peers nod in agreement and share a similar story offers a great sense of relief that I’m not alone. Learning about new skills, strategies and resources is invaluable. Seeing most people get better and succeed offers hope.

MDSG-NY has provided me with a warm, nonjudgmental community. I know I am understood whether I share or not. Becoming a facilitator has enhanced my life as well. My friendships have grown through this wonderful grass-root organization. I am no longer a victim to my mood disorder.

After several severe depressive episodes, a hospitalization and medication issues that threatened my quality of life, I found MDSG-NY in 2007. At group I interact with people with similar thoughts and moods to myself. Members are supportive because they empathize. Meetings are my safe haven and the members in them have become my second family. Through MDSG-NY and therapy I learn new coping skills and different medications to manage my depression.

MDSG-NY has been a wonderfully healing community for me and I am grateful to be a part of it. I came to my first meeting in 2010 because of a bad depression. MDSG-NY welcomed me and provided me with support and guidance for my recovery. I have made many meaningful friendships here and am inspired to give back.
