B)  CLUBHOUSES
Clubhouses are organizations that provide a place for members to go during the day, work or learn in a group setting and receive social services. They are typically open during work hours, and members are expected to work or learn while there. Membership is obtained through direct application or sometimes by recommendation from other club members and social agencies.

  • Clubhouses look for specific qualities or types of members that they feel will fit in with and add to their community, and support their mission.
  • It is a good idea to call a clubhouse close to you and arrange a tour. Or, ask around at one of the area support groups, as many people there are members and will give you a tour.
  • Clubhouses often have housing available for members, have sponsor members in Transitional Employment positions at NYC companies and often have social workers available to help members apply for social services.
